UMTS in Germany, the auction starts to wind

The auction for UMTS licenses in Germany could be nearing its conclusion, as reported by many analysts. The belief that the race is close to finish is circulating in the market after bids have now reached the 90 million marks, with negative repercussions on quoted companies in the race. Deutcsh Telekom marks now -2% to 47.4 euros. The two major bidders are in fact the former German monopoly and Mobilfunk, a subsidiary of Vodafone-Mannesmann. Despite that bids have far exceeded the initial expectations of the market, some operators have noted that Germany is an operator of central importance with regard to cosrtuzone of a pan-European network for telephony.
